S...First, certainly, technology can be addictive. <br /><br />Second, for all of history success in life has favored the Myers-Briggs category of SJs, who can steadfastly concentrate on reliably achieving a job at a high rate of quality. They are hard workers and are the majority of church goers. They are, in the diffusion of innovations terminology, middle and late adopters.<br /><br />The influx of new technologies has now given the edge to early adopters and innovators, who can quickly adapt to new ideas, and to Myers-Briggs "P" types, who can quickly adapt to the constant flow of ever changing information. The weaknesses of these types, however, is that they are swept away on the river of information because of their constant fascination with new information. Temporarily, however, they are successful in this new environment.<br /><br />Third, therefore, the hard, consistent, focused work and ability to concentrate will eventually cause SJs to regain the advantage they've lost. I believe this will happen as they carefully accept technology they can use and ignore the ephemeral.<br /><br />Fourth, I think we are going to see a backlash in society ... a return to "media free" sabbath days, minimal cable TV channel packages, and probably even paper based organizers like the Franklin planner. Eventually, those who focus will regain the positions of influence and power over resources.<br /><br />I have the latest cell phone, which doubles as a small computer. It's not as functional to keep me organized as my old Palm Pilot, which they don't make any more. It also costs, due to crazy rates, literally thousands of dollars more per year to operate.
